The International Urban Planning Olympiad empowers the next generation of urban planners by challenging high school students to tackle real-world city planning problems. We believe that today’s students hold the keys to tomorrow’s sustainable, livable cities, and our competition provides a platform for them to showcase their analytical thinking, creativity, and passion for building better communities.
To inspire and identify emerging talent in urban planning while fostering a global community of young problem-solvers who will shape the cities of the future. We envision a world where high school students see themselves as active participants in creating more sustainable, equitable, and innovative urban environments.
Cities house over half the world’s population and generate 80% of global GDP. The decisions made about urban design today will determine whether future cities are sustainable, equitable, and livable. From climate resilience to housing affordability, from transportation equity to smart growth, these challenges are undoubtedly complex and urgent.
High school students are uniquely positioned to bring fresh perspectives to these challenges. They’ll inherit the cities we’re building today, and they deserve a voice in shaping them.
